Darren Till, Tony Ferguson, Dillon Danis Notch Victories at Misfits Boxing 22
In mixed martial arts, their meeting might have gone differently,
but under boxing rules, Darren Till
is clearly a level above Luke
Rockhold.
Rockhold, a former middleweight champion in both Strikeforce and the UFC, was in trouble early, as he was dropped by a Till left late in the opening round. Rockhold was likely saved by the bell in that frame, as he struggled to return to his feet, but that only delayed the inevitable. In the third frame, Till backed his foe into a corner and teed off with a multi-punch combination. The last shot — a massive left hand — rendered Rockhold unconscious and folded him backward over his left leg. Rockhold’s recent combat sports endeavors have included losses in Misfits Boxing, grappling and bare knuckle boxing as well as a victory under the Karate Combat banner.
In the evening’s co-main event, Tony Ferguson ended a lengthy winless drought in combat sports with a third-round stoppage victory over influencer Salt Papi in a 170-pound affair. The end came at the 2:43 mark of Round 3.
Ferguson set the stage for the finish by stalking his opponent — whose given name is Nathaniel Bustamante — near the ropes, where he unloaded with a barrage of punches in close quarters. While Salt Papi had his guard up during the onslaught, the referee had seen enough, and he stepped in to wave off the contest. Prior to Saturday, “El Cucy” had lost eight consecutive UFC appearances from May 2020 to August 2024.
Earlier, Dillon Danis made a triumphant return to combat sports, submitting Warren Spencer in 15 seconds in a bout contested under modified mixed martial arts rules. Danis and his opponent stood at range only briefly before Spencer, an MMA newcomer with a handful of boxing bouts, surprisingly initiated an attempt to close the distance. Danis took advantage by securing a headlock and snapping his man down to the canvas before transitioning to a mounted guillotine to elicit the tapout.
It was the first fight for “El Jefe” since a first-round submission of Max Humphrey at Bellator 222 in June 2019. The bout was for the vacant Misfits Boxing light heavyweight (170-pound) championship.
